We run a rustbelt campaign where the characters are locals who've started out from nothing ( cardboard boxes, long walkers, blackmarked in europe, sinless ,ect.) to being built up to a point where there the best freelance solo squad in the region now.
so when the corporations decide to run a "project" in there area, our solo group fiecely protects the area, because they know they have so much to loose.

it doesnt sound very "cyberpunk", but it channels the "neo noir" aspect of cp by putting a bunch of anti-heros in a redemptve underdog situation. and the players end up genuinely hating the corps and the main gangs whove "bought in", for trying to distroy everything theyve built up in the community.

A very cyberpunk way (but not a very subtle one): The drug that gives the solo +1 REF and +1 COOL without any hard disadvantages is only being sold by the bad guy.
